Carol's "It's a Mad Kit for me"

1:12th Kitchen Table and Chairs – It’s a Mad Kit for me

This kit immediately inspired an afternoon tea and looking outside my window and seeing sunshine and bright colours, I thought of an outdoor one and it is obviously where my head went next!

I covered the baseboard with some railway grass matting and made a small pathway alongside from a piece of sandpaper which I then painted a light grey before adding darker tones and some smidges of excess grass. To help make the path look part of the scene and not look as though it was stuck on separately, I used fibres from the grass matting and stuck them over the join.

I removed the table pieces from the MDF and which only then needed the teensiest rub down with a nail file before the whole was assembled according to the clear instruction. A coat of paint and some distressing on the legs was all it took for an easy finished piece.

The same method was used for the chairs, I used four and not the six that are supplied as I wanted to have a little area of grass and garden. The differing primary colours were fun to do but to give some cohesion, I used the same fabric for all four seat cushions by covering thin foam. Allowing for the drying of paint, this is a kit which can be made in a couple of hours and then I could enjoy spending time in adding the details.

The 3d printed dinner set that comes with the MDF kit is easy to decorate, I used a permanent marker pen and made a bold stripe and an edged spot design on the plates and square serving platter respectively. The cutlery was treated in the same way, using a silver marker for the blades and spoon bowl of the knives and spoons and then a co-ordinating stripe around the handles. I chose not to use the forks but do think that a traditional place setting for a dressed dinner table, rather than a tea party, would look fabulous.

I added odd details to reflect the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party theme (whaddya mean you didn’t realise?!), the Cheshire Cool Kat, the White Rabbit (who is holding a copy of Alice in Wonderland) and a few playing cards scattered about the table and grass. Just in front of the railings is a pot of white roses (made using the CKC ruffled petal die and the rose leaf die sets) which are in the process of being painted red and a couple of funny faced flower heads. Of course apart from the tea and cakes, there has to be a very Happy Un-Birthday card which was precisely made using the text stamper tool and the CKC die set. Whilst I did not use the envelopes from the die set in this project, I can certainly see me using them on a frequent basis.

I love how this kit is so versatile and can represent all kinds of displays of mini pieces and crafting to the point that you can let your imagination go wild, or indeed, Mad!!

We all love how Carol has created her Wondlerland Tea Party, and if you have been inspired please share your CoolKatz makes with us over in the CoolKatz Facebook group.
