Elizabeth's Chaise Longue

Elizabeth's Chaise Longue

I love to upholster miniature chairs etc but sometimes they can be a bit
of a fiddle, so remembering a pot of flock that has been sat in my
drawer for years I thought I'd give it a go and see how it would turn out.

I decided to use the Chaise Longue for this experiment, the full project will
be shared next week.

First of all I built the Chaise, aligning the seat cushion flush to the
bottom of the Chaise. I added a piece of twine inside the gap around the
cushion to bulk it out a little.

Next I created a template for a piece of card to go over the head rest
to cover all the strips of MDF so they wouldn't show through as much.

I cut out the card and gently ran it through my fingers to give it a
slight curve, this would help once the card was glued onto the headrest.

I glued the card into position and held until it was completely adhered.

Paint the entire Chaise in a matching colour to your flock. I chose a
metallic turquoise blue as it was the closest to the turquoise flock I
was planning to use. Leave the Chaise to dry completely before the next
stage.

Using the Bookbinding Glue and glue brush work quickly and cover the entire
Chaise, excluding the legs, unless you want those flocked!

Working on a piece of copy paper to collect the excess, sprinkle the flock powder overthe Chaise. Gently tap the flock (don't rub otherwise you will removeit) so it adheres to the piece and leave to dry.

Once dry use a soft brush, an old clean make up blusher brush is perfect as it won't scratch the piece, but it will remove the excess flock.

Repeat the process layering up until you get the required effect. I must
admit I quite like a little of the metallic paint showing through in areas.

Add colour to the legs, I used a gold marker and set aside to dry.

Oh my goodness....what a lot of flocking and such a cool technique.

If you want to try your hand at our alternative way to decorate the Chaise please don't forget to share your CoolKatz Projects with us over in the CoolKatz Facebook Group.

Happy Crafting.
