Tiling The Floor of the Aquatic Chaise Scene 1/12^th scale

Elizabeth shows us how she created her amazing tiled floor from  her “Aquatic Chaise Longue” project, which you can find in an earlier blog.......Over to Elizabeth.

I covered the base of the scene with black card, this will be the colour
that shows as the grout between the tiles. I measured across the floor
at the back wall to find the centre and made a pencil mark, then I
double checked my measurements!

Cut out your spacers in a contrasting colour that will show up against
the grout. Then add your flat sided (shaped like a K spacer) on the
pencil mark against the back wall.

DO NOT GLUE ANY OF THE SPACERS DOWN!

                                                      
I decided on a checkerboard style floor using two different colours in
1/12th size and having them laying in a diamond pattern. Glue your first
tile down making sure it is flush against the spacer, and also that the
spacer hasn't lost its shape.

                          
Add the next spacer (cross shaped) underneath the first tile, then
carefully add your next square tile underneath, making sure it is the
right colour. Build up the pattern with the alternating tile colours making sure the tiles are glued down as you go.

Once you remove the spacers you will see the
colour of the card underneath showing through creating the illusion of grout.

You can have great fun choosing contrasting colours for this, how about shocking pink underneath a classic black and white floor.

                                                                            

Creating tiled floors is so much fun, a little time consuming but well
worth the finished effect.
