Faye's Christmas Chimney

Faye's Christmas Chimney

I quickly decided that for this model I wanted to keep the room decoration plain to allow the cards to pop and stand out. I started by did a dry run (without glue) with the pieces so I knew which bits needed to be painted before or after being stuck together.

Although I wanted the room decoration to be plain, I like adding texture and depth to the model. I created this by cutting strips of egg box for the walls and small brick shaped shapes from egg box for the fireplace. When using egg box, it is important to not use the print side outwards as it is difficult to cover in paint.

This was especially important I was doing a beige them. I glued small areas and then chose the bricks accordingly.

It is important to allow the bricks (egg box shapes) to dry fully before moving on. The side of the fireplace was smaller than the bricks so I glued them in place, allowed to dry and then using a craft knife cut along the mdf edge.

When painting the brick wall, I used a brown, light brown and red brown shade. I started with the light brown to create the mortar and then dry brushed the bricks with the brown and red-brown paint. Do not worry about this stage. If you do not like a section, paint over it and start again. Once the brick wall was complete, I stuck on printed tiles to the fire surround. These were tile pictures resized, printed and stuck using Coolkatz glue.

The fire basket was spray painted and then the actual fire was created using a glue gun. I put the glue into the basket, quickly turned it upside down and then quickly pulled the hot glue out to create flame shapes. It's a painful but effective step! Once set, I painted the flames with red, orange and yellow paint.

The floor and grout were created by cutting scrapbook paper with the new Coolkatz die set. I stuck the tiles individually and added the grout pieces in between.

I added a cushion to the spray painted rocking chair by cutting a piece of card, sticking on folded kitchen towel to create a cushion finish and covered it with cut felt.

The project was finished by cutting Christmas patterned paper and red / green card with the Coolkatz card set. These were stuck together and then stamped with the fantastic stamps set. Completed cards were stuck onto the shelves along with envelops made using the die.
