"In The Library" with Elizabeth

"In The Library" with Elizabeth

I have taken my time with this Library filling it slowly a little at a time. After assembling the Library I covered the walls with wrapping paper,
yes, wrapping paper I struck lucky and grabbed two huge sheets of this
gorgeous Italian paper. The design was the perfect size for Miniature
rooms, in fact I actually bought it for my own Dolls House renovation.

For all of the woodwork, the shelves, floor, ladders and window seat were
stained using Cadence Liquid Wax which once dry was gently buffed up
with a soft cloth to remove any residue.

Once the walls were papered and the shelves were in situ I set about
finding miniature book covers to cover the faux book MDF blanks that
come with the kit.

You can find plenty of these on Etsy or other online
selling platforms. Or just use papers from your own stash depending on
how you want your library's book collection to look.

I worked through covering a few books at a time, gradually building up
the book collection on the library shelves.

I used one of the book covers as it was the perfect size to go inside
one of the Landscape Photograph frames.

The frame was coloured using a Gold Pen Touch Calligraphy pen from Sakura, these pens always come in handy for gilding decoration on miniatures and you will see them throughout most of my projects.

I found a small clear resin plate and added decoration with a nail decal
(another favourite decoration of mine) and edged it with the gold pen.

The three different sized chunky candles fitted perfectly onto the
plate, I added a tiny touch of black Micron pen to the wick to make them
look as if they'd been previously lit.

You will spot a small vase on the upper back shelves, this again was
decorated using a nail decal and of course gold pen.

The window treatment is a section cut from a vintage piece of French
cotton lace (another passion of mine, vintage French textiles) folded
over at the top and stitched down to create a space for the curtain rod
to slip through, which incidentally is a kebab stick coloured with an
alcohol ink pen.

On the window seat you will find a newspaper folded with the crossword
ready to be filled in, a decanter and a couple of glasses, they've been
tinted using alcohol inks and gold pen added for the stopper of the
bottle and also the rims of the glasses. You will also find another
decanter hidden on the shelves......

If you peek through the window you can see over the iron railings and
through into the garden beyond.

The library step ladder is freestanding and can be placed anywhere you
need, to reach up to a higher shelf, maybe to grab a cigar from the cigar
box.................or maybe that box holds something other than cigars?

The lamp shade is created by adhering fabric onto a piece of card,
cutting it out, shaping it and adhering it to the ceiling (I will do a
separate blog post for that).

The rug is a little cheat and is a rug cut out from an advert and is paper.

The chair I covered in a green flock with a metallic green under paint.
You will find a tutorial for that same technique where I covered a
Chaise Longue here
https://www.coolkatzcraft.com/blog/post/elizabeth-s-chaise-longue

The cushion on the chair is 1 1/2"x 1 1/2" and is hand stitched with a
tiny trim added to finish  it off and co ordinate with the rug.

So I think that's everything covered and I hope you enjoyed having a
closer look at my Library.

If I've inspired you to create your own version of the Library please
share it with us in the CoolKatz Facebook group along with any other
CoolKatz projects you create, we all love to see your creativity come to
life.
